The Impact of one Bible
One-by-one, the Bible is impacting the lives of a growing number of young people in a Muslim majority country. Discipled by mature leaders, they discover that being Christian is about living from God’s Word every day.
Rami: “God wants me to be strong and courageous in reaching out to others”
Rami* (25) is a young believer Open Doors partners met with at a young people’s Bible study group in Jordan. Open Doors helps organize Bible studies for believers from a Muslim background and other Christians to disciple and engage young people to stay rooted in the word of God.
Rami was from a nominal Christian family in Jordan and he considered himself to be an atheist when he joined the group. He told our partners that he had a secret agenda, “I thought I would be able to convince the group of my own ideas, about rejecting God. That is why I joined. So, I attended the meetings, but in my heart I knew I was just acting. During praise time I praised and during prayer time I also seemed to be involved, but deep inside I wanted to convince them that there is no God.”
However, the Living God had another plan for Rami. “My act became more and more difficult to uphold, because when meeting with these people I felt a feeling I had never experienced so deeply before—joy. I just couldn’t deny the love the group was showing me.”
Gradually, Rami opened up his heart to God, and during one of the meetings he made the decision to follow Jesus Christ. “When I made that decision, I felt a joy and peace I never felt before. In my old life I experienced what worldly joy means, but now I know the meaning of Biblical joy.”
God helped Rami to quit a number of addictions he was struggling with. “Day-by-day, God is changing me into the image he wants me to be. He changes my character; he changes my attitude; even my family and parents notice this change in my life. The most important thing in my life is now to serve God.”
Rami’s favorite Bible text is Joshua 1:9
“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
This Bible verse encourages Rami to reach out with the gospel to the people around him. “I realize that I have a message inside my heart to send and to deliver the good news that God has trusted into our hands. Even to people who don’t know it yet. Without the courage of this verse working inside of my heart, I would not be able do that.”
