Government policy allows the free practice of religion; however, there are limits on this right. Members of other religious groups are permitted to practise their faith privately and to maintain their own places of worship. But all religious groups must obtain a license. Conversion from Islam is not tolerated. Muslim-background believers are shunned by their families and communities and sometimes face physical abuse.
