Persecution increased in 2008. There were reports of believers being arrested, beaten, and discriminated against by the police. In rural areas, families and local Muslims put pressure on believers to return to Islam. Pastors and their families are easy targets for local gangsters and Christian women may be harassed and violated. In May 2008, a pastor’s daughter was abducted and raped by a group of teenage Muslims. |
