The peace settlement of 2005 produced separate constitutions for North and South Sudan. In the North, Islamic law is applied to all. It is difficult for Christians to get permission to have their own place of worship. There is a lot of pressure from society to conform to Islamic traditions, and some militants persecute Christians with violence. In October 2007, a suicide bomber walked into a church where a children's training seminar was underway. Five children were killed in the attack. |
