Oil and gas wealth has transformed this country over the last 30 years. The Ibadi sect of Islam is the dominant religion. Most Christians are foreign workers. Non-Islamic literature cannot be published in the country, though some Christian literature is imported for the expatriate community. Converts from Islam can lose their family, house and job. If the family ask the government to act, believers are considered psychiatric patients. One Christian was subjected to electro-shock therapy.
