There is no constitution, but the country follows traditional Islamic law. Importing religious literature is restricted. Converts are ostracised from society. Much persecution comes from within their families. Expatriate churches are limited to one church per denomination in each city. However, Libyan Christians are not able to attend for fear of being watched, betrayed, imprisoned, or killed. Several believers were harmed for their faith in 2007, and a number were arrested.
