Pro-democracy demonstrations led by Buddhist monks were violently squashed by the oppressive military dictatorship in September 2007. Already the target of arrests, Christians did not play a large part in the demonstrations. Many belong to ethnic minorities and live in great fear of the police state. They are discriminated against and face restrictions and persecution, particularly in the provinces outside of the capital city. |
