This is the largest democracy in the world and has the second largest population. Tensions between Hindus, Sikhs, Muslims and Christians remain high. There are many reports of attacks on churches, kidnappings, arrests, and intimidation from Hindu extremists. This is particularly directed at church leaders. Eight states have anti-conversion laws preventing Hindus from becoming Christians. Even so, many of the impoverished ‘dalits’ (untouchables) are becoming Christians. |
