There has been a Church in Egypt since the first century. The government has strict regulations for church activities, restricting evangelical churches in particular. Christians are discriminated against in the workplace and believers from a Muslim background are rejected by society. In May 2007 Muslims rioted in protest at one church’s plans to build a community centre and a church. Over 50 Christian homes were burned, shops were looted, and several people were injured. |
