Womens Ministry

Your persecuted sisters need you. For too long, the voices of persecuted Christian women around the world have remained unheard. Now, through Open Doors' new Women's Ministry, we are responding to their cries for help in five key areas:

  • Esther - Encouraging persecuted Christian women through prayer and letter-writing
  • Martha - Providing suffering sisters with livelihood programs
  • Deborah - giving new prospects and hope with Bible-based literacy training

Right now, millions of your sisters in Christ across the world are being abused, belittled and allowed no voice in their homes and communities. In many countries there are no laws to keep husbands from beating their wives or daughters.

Often women are not regarded as people, but merely as property - to be sold into marriage.

Many women are allowed no access to education.

Many of your sisters in Christ have an even worse plight - they also suffer for their faith.

Christian women living in some of the world's most dangerous places are despised, assaulted, disowned, destitute and are risking death for their beliefs.

With your prayers and financial support, Open Doors will strengthen and encourage persecuted Christian women like these:

Tsige stood helpless and horrified as her husband was beaten to death in Ethiopia, all because of his determination to share his Christian faith with his neighbours. Powerful leaders hated him for this stand. He paid the ultimate price.

Pray for women like Tsige who face the twin traumas of bereavement and having to stand strong against hostile neighbours and regimes.

Your prayers will strengthen their spirits to cope with their loneliness and grief, finding comfort in God's presence and love.

Sharwali was illiterate and unable to provide for herself and her family.

Open Doors provided her with literacy and vocational training in a secure and loving environment.

Now Sharwali has found new hope. She has learnt to read and write, and Open Doors has taught her sewing and tailoring skills so she is able to provide for her family.

You can empower many women like Sharwali, helping them gain dignity and independence, and strengthening their Christian faith by providing literacy and livelihood training for them.

Pascuala's life changed forever one dark night when a gang of anti-Christian mobsters set fire to her family home. Pascuala was shot in the neck, but miraculously survived.

Pascuala is just one of many Christian women in Mexico's Chiapas State who face hostility and deprivation because of their evangelical faith. They have very little, and have to live hand to mouth.

With a grant and encouragement from Open Doors, they have been able to develop their remarkable skill of producing beautiful crafts into a profitable livelihood.

You can help provide grants for women like Pascuala so they can create a livelihood.

Chely de Vinatea's husband David was unjustly imprisoned on trumped-up charges. Open Doors were able to go and personally assure Chely that we would stand beside her and her family, pray for her, and make the real truth known. Her husband has since been released and the family are rebuilding their lives together.

By participating in Open Doors' advocacy campaigns you can stand up for women like Chely whose loved ones are in prison because of their faith.

Joy's fiance was gunned down in a church in the southern Philippines just days after handing out Scripture tracts in a Muslim community.

Full of determination and courage, Joy's response has been to provide Bibles and Bible teaching in that same hostile community. Joy knows that the truth of God's Word is the only real hope for her people.

Many women in her community have not had an education, so she works with Open Doors literacy classes to help these disadvantaged women.

You can enable sisters like Joy to read and share the Scriptures with vital Bibles, evangelism materials and literacy training.
